While watching, My Mic Sounds Nice: A True Story about Women and Hip-hop, I contemplated why there was not more discussion about Nicki Minaj. In the documentary the question of whether or not she has true substance left me to believe some MC’s look at her as merely just a Mixtape queen and not really as a MC. But I just have to say people truly underestimate her. Minaj is so smart: she is featured on everyone’s and I mean EVERYONE’s song, she uses her out of the box style to sell and make more money, and at the end of the day she is an excellent lyricist. I will say most of her rhymes aren’t deep like artist Lauryn Hill; however neither are Missy Elliot's and people still embrace her. At the end of the day people need to stop hating and yes I said it hating, and just give her a chance. She is more than just a Barbie spokesperson, she is the future of women MC’s, and whether you like it or not she’s not going anywhere.
